Wayne Rooney ready to fight for his England shirt

Wayne Rooney has admitted he has to fight for his England future revealed he can’t take his “England place for granted” with Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy staking their claim.

But he has already been usurped in the Rooney home, with his boy Kai asking for an England shirt with “Vardy” on the back!

Rooney has insisted he is not finished yet in an England shirt and is desperate to “contribute and score goals” in France in the summer.

The veteran’s place has been the subject of huge debate in the past few days after England beat Germany with a fresh band of youngsters.

On the mounting challenge he faces to stay as England’s talisman he warned against throwing too many inexperienced stars into tournament action.

Rooney said: “As I have said throughout my career at Man United and England I never take my place for granted.

“Obviously you want to play, and it is great that competition is there. The quality we have got, it is exciting to be part of it.

“I can’t wait to get fit and be back out there with the lads. It is something I enjoy doing and I want to keep doing and I want to keep going and get ready.”

“It excited me. First of all I want England to be successful and win trophies, My lad has asked me to get him and England kit with Vardy on the back! Naijabet.com

Rwanda seek revenge with wining against Mauritius

Following their 1-0 loss to Mauritius on Saturday, Rwanda will be looking to turn around their fortunes when they host Le Dodos in the Afcon 2017 qualifier return leg fixture on Tuesday at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali.

Both sides are contesting for second place in Group H that is topped by Ghana who have a 100 per cent record and have amassed nine points from three games scoring 11 goals and conceded only twice.

With Saturday’s win courtesy of a header from defender Francis Rasolofonirina who scored off a corner kick, Mauritius occupy second position with six points ahead of Rwanda who have three points.

Rwanda head coach, Johnny McKinstry, said: “We need to go out and play with a lot of intensity. Let us be realistic. We had some chances on Saturday but we need to raise it up a little. Everyone had a six out of 10 and that is not good enough.”

“We have made it harder for ourselves. We said at the beginning of qualifying that 12 points would definitely take us there. Even at the beginning, 11 points, 10 or nine might have been enough.

“Twelve points was what would have made a certainty but now we have been given a second chance because the weekend results across Africa in that race for best second place finish pretty much all the results went into our favour so we have been given a second chance and the players have been informed but we won’t be given a third chance” Naijabet.com.

Super Eagles holds no fear for Egypt : Oghenekaro Etebo

Oghenekaro Etebo knows like his Nigeria teammates that they must win in Egypt and he is confident that they can grind out the three points in the Afcon qualifying game on Tuesday.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles go head to head with their Egyptian counterparts, the Pharaohs, at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria, and Etebo is hopeful they can leave the North African nation with the full points on the back of their impressive play until a late Mohamed Salah cancelled out their lead in Kaduna last Friday.

The 20-year-old scored for Nigeria in the reverse game which ended 1-1 and is keen to help his country to see off the Egyptians especially after the withdrawal of Chad from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifications has put them in a must-win situation to put themselves in contention to win their group.

“Yes we are aware (of Chad’s withdrawal and how it affects the group),”We know we have to win in Egypt though it will be a difficult game. Egypt too want to win this match. So it will be a tough game but like I said we want to win.” Naija and Bet

The attacking striker said he has put aside his performance of last Friday and the focus is on Tuesday’s game in Alexandria.

“It was good to score in the last game, but that is in the past. Now the concentration is on the next game which is very important. I just want to help the team win,” he said to supersport.com.

Etebo, who was named 2015 Africa Most Promising Talent, has scored once in the ongoing Afcon qualification.

Super Eagles have to score goals against Egypt

Nigeria will have to score goals against Egypt when the two sides clash in the back-to-back games next week.

The Super Eagles are behind on goals difference and are in second place. A win sees Nigeria leapfrog Egypt to the top of the table before the return leg in Alexandria.

Goals will count, Nigeria is condemned to score them, not just for the Kaduna game but moving forward in the qualifiers. Naija and bet

Two goals in two games isn’t exactly a bad return but considering Egypt have scored eight goals, it’s a tough ask for Nigeria. Whatever the case maybe, Nigeria needs to start scoring and scoring real soon.

The game against Egypt provides an opportunity for the strikers to close the gap-goals difference wise, just in case it comes to that at the end of the qualifiers.

Interim coach Samson Siasia called up 13 strikers for the game but that has been pruned down to ten as the game against Egypt looms.
