An El Clasico is back on the schedule!
The Spanish football federation has announced the date of this season’s second La Liga El Clasico. The two teams will meet for the first time sinceBarcelona’s 4-0 hammering of the then Rafael Benitez led Real Madrid. On April 2nd at 8:30pm CET though, Real Madrid will face the Catalans for the first time since Zinedine Zidane has taken over the reigns.
Both teams have four league fixtures to play until then as well as the return leg of the Champions League 1st knockout round. Immediately before the El Clasico on April 2, there is also an international break which could make for a sluggish match, especially in the early going, but arguably the biggest match-up in football will be worth a watch nonetheless. Just days after the big game both teams will return to the Champions League, provided they both hold on to the advantage won in their respective first legs, as the Quarter-Final matches are scheduled for the 5th/6th April.
The way the league table looks now Barcelona have a sizable 12 point advantage over their eternal rivals, but things can turn around quickly and the fact that Atletico Madrid continue to win games in the Spanish League means that Barcelona can’t afford to take any games lightly, most certainly not a Clasico.
