“What would Ferguson think?” – Man Utd urged to replace ‘narcissist’ Jose Mourinho

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has been labelled as “narcissistic” by Irish football analyst, Eamon Dunphy, who believes the Portuguese is a bad fit for the club.

Mourinho hit headlines for the wrong reasons on Tuesday as his side were knocked out of the Champions League by an inconsistent Sevilla team, losing 2-1 at Old Trafford. NaijaBet.com

United set out far too defensively in the defeat – despite not having the security of an away goal after a 0-0 draw in the first leg – but Mourinho defended his tactics and talked the club down in his post-match press conference, referencing his past successes against United in the Champions League.

And Dunphy, who provides analysis for Irish broadcaster RTE, took offence to the comments. NaijaBet.com

“He’s narcissistic; it’s all about him, everything’s about him,” he told RTE.

“First of all football is a team game and you want to share the good times and the bad times with your players.

“And also it’s a reference to defeats that he inflicted on Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Champions League on a night when a team of journeymen had beaten them and there was plenty of evidence on the pitch that he’d made mistakes in his team selection,” Dunphy added. NaijaBet.com

“It was bad taste, bad timing and I would say, what would Ferguson think? What would Bobby Charlton think? What would Man United fans think?

“I think in all three cases, they’d prefer to have another coach. That’s my view, he’s not a good fit.”

United now look to the FA Cup as their only chance for a trophy this season, with Manchester City just two wins away from the Premier League title. NaijaBet.com

United bow out thanks to negative tactics

United would have fancied their chances of getting past Sevilla in the Champions League, with the Spanish side having conceded 12 goals in six group stage games this season.

But a goalless draw in the first leg, which was perceived as an advantage by some, was ultimately their downfall as United’s tactics were undone by the opener from Wissam Ben Yedder.

Mourinho’s plans crumbled before him as his side were made to chase the game – allowing Ben Yedder to grab his second, knocking the three-time Champions League winners out of the competition.
