Martinez says Inter Milan move will be “settled” after Argentina duty

Argentina striker Lautaro Martinez has confirmed “everything will be settled” with a move to Inter Milan once the international break is over.

The Racing Club striker had been linked with a move to Inter over the past month with the player’s agent teasing a deal was 90% done just last week.

Martinez has scored 15 goals in 16 games so far this season in all competitions, including two hat-tricks, form that earned him his first call-up to the Argentina national team.

And, having been included in Jorge Sampaoli’s squad, the 20-year-old admitted it was a dream come true to join up with The Albiceleste – putting any talks of a transfer temporarily on hold.

Martinez has been called up to the Argentina senior side for the first time, having scored seven goals in 11 games for their under-20s

“Everything happened very quickly, it came as a bit of a surprise,” Martinez told reporters, via Football Italia.

“I worked very hard to get here and I’m happy I’m going to get to experience something I have always dreamed about, I can’t wait to meet the whole group, not just Lionel Messi.

“I’d like to come on and score, that’s what I dream of, but I’ll be available for anything [Coach Jorge] Sampaoli wants,” added the forward. NaijaBet.com

“Inter? Almost everything is set, there are some final details to be worked out but when I come back to Argentina there will be a meeting with my agent and everything will be settled.

“I keep repeating though that right now my only thought is about Racing, I want to give 100 percent for this club and help achieve our objectives.” NaijaBet.com

Martinez had also been linked with a move to Real Madrid in 2015, before opting to stay with Racing while also attracting interest from Manchester United and Manchester City.

A potential replacement for Icardi?

Martinez is reportedly being touted as a potential replacement for compatriot Mauro Icardi, who has been linked with a move to Real Madrid. NaijaBet.com

After enduring a quiet spell, Icardi returned to form with a bang against Sampdoria, scoring four goals in a 5-0 win to help Inter move up to fourth.

Playing 65 minutes, the Argentine found the back of the net as many times as he completed passes on the way to reaching the 100-goal milestone in Serie A. NaijaBet.com
