Hamburg have told Brazilian midfielder Walace he must train with the Under-21s following multiple misconduct incidents.
Walace has played 18 times for Hamburg in the Bundesliga this season, scoring one goal.
The 22-year-old won a gold medal with the Brazil Under-23s at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. He has appeared for the senior team twice.
Hamburg are currently bottom of the German top-flight having taken only 18 points 27 matches.
New manager Christian Titz, who was appointed earlier this month, wants to play Walace as a central defender – but the player has refused. NaijaBet.com
“Head coach Christian Titz had told the Brazilian last week that he would like to use him in central defence, as his strengths there are most effective at the moment,” reads a statement on Hamburg’s official website.
Hamburg sporting director Bernhard Peters added: “We do not tolerate that while his colleagues were fighting for survival, he was not present at the stadium and did not support the team.”
Repeat offender
Hamburg’s statement details another offence: Walace took it upon himself to extend his winter break, returning back in Germany late at the beginning of the year.
“If he has reflected on his misconduct, he can return to the coach for a conversation,” said Peters. NaijaBet.com
