Martin Odegaard confirms Real Madrid return despite uncertain future

Martin Odegaard has confirmed he will be returning to Real Madrid after his loan spell at Heerenveen is over at the end of the season.

The 19-year-old youngster signed for Real Madrid back in 2015 to much fanfare, with the Norwegian touted as being one of the most promising teenagers in world football despite having only made 23 appearances for Norwegian side Strømsgodset.

However it hasn’t all gone to plan, or at least Odegaard’s route into Los Blancos’ first-team has been slowed by the array of big-money stars already at the club. NaijaBet.com

Odegaard has made 11 appearances for Norway, and 42 for Heerenveen, one for Real Madrid as well as 62 for Real Madrid Castilla – the club’s third team.

“I’m going to try to finish the season as well as possible with Heerenveen,” the Norwegian attacker was quoted as saying by Mundo Deportivo.

“I’ll return to Madrid this summer for preseason and then we’ll see what happens. Nothing’s been decided yet.” NaijaBet.com

On whether he expects to be loaned out again, Odegaard added: “Possibly, but it’s not the time to talk about that. I’ve always said that the important thing is to play.

“It’s about looking for a club where you can get minutes at the highest level possible. I’ve never regretted that decision [to sign for Madrid].

“I knew I had to be patient because Real Madrid are the best team in the world.”

Odegaard will be part of a 10th-placed Heerenveen team that will travel to Almelo on Sunday to take on Heracles, who occupy 11th-spot in the Dutch Eredivisie.
