Sergio Aguero: How Pep Guardiola has changed my game

Manchester City centre-forward Sergio Aguero says working under Pep Guardiola has forced him to change the way he plays.

The 29-year-old Argentine marksman is currently enjoying a seventh season with the soon-to-be Premier League champions.

Since joining from Atlético Madrid in 2011, he has played under three different managers (Roberto Mancini, Manuel Pellegrini and Guardiola), learning from each, and his current boss is no different.

“I’m driven to keep on learning, and I have always been able to absorb the lessons of other coaches and put them to practice,” he told the club’s official website.

“Pep is very demanding, but I simply had to adapt my game and mindset and change how I play to his style.

“That means helping recover the ball, press, pass it around more, search for my teammates and remain open for passes to find the goal.

“It’s a continuous learning process, and I value that kind of thing as it helps me improve as a player.”

Aguero in Manchester

Aguero is City’s all-time record scorer having bagged 199 goals in 291 matches.

Of those, 143 have come in the Premier League, with his efforts seeing the club win two league titles to date.

In fact, since joining in 2011 no player has scored more English top-flight goals than Aguero with Harry Kane (102) and Romelu Lukaku (100) second and third behind him.

So far this season, Aguero has registered 30 goals in 38 matches which means he is just four goals away from surpassing his best season in front of goal (33 in 2016/17). NaijaBet.com

Manchester City will be hoping Aguero can find the net on Tuesday night as they look to overcome a 3-0 first-leg deficit against Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Argentine has scored in six of the last seven games against Liverpool at the Etihad and is also still hunting his milestone 200th goal for the club.
