“Nothing Gareth Bale does is worth 100 million” – Valdano

“Nothing Gareth Bale does is worth 100 million” – Valdano

Former Real Madrid player and coach Jorge Valdano has slammed Gareth Bale with the Wales international struggling to regain his form after injury.

Valdano was critical of the price the Spanish giants had to pay for the Welshmen and believes his recent performances do not justify the outlay.

Bale has struggled with several injuries during his time in Spain, which has led to a loss of form. NaijaBet.com

He joined Real Madrid in 2013 for a then world record fee and helped Los Blancos win La Liga, the Copa Del Rey, three Champions League crowns and the Club World Cup as he closes in on 200 appearances – but Valdano isn’t satisfied.

“Nothing he does is worth €100 million, and that’s the price tag he carries around on his shirt.”

The former forward and sporting director went on to praise Cristiano Ronaldo who scored in the recent Madrid derby.

“[During the derby] Cristiano looked very comfortable physically. He played all across the attack and he is enjoying a great period of confidence,” said Valdano. NaijaBet.com

“His duel with Leo Messi to be the best player in the world lacks nothing. It’s Real Madrid against Barcelona and Europe against South America. It’s a battle between two geniuses.” NaijaBet.com

Ronaldo grabbed his 40th goal of the season in all competitions during the game and has been a bright light in an otherwise dim season for Zinedine Zidane’s side – albeit only finding his goalscoring touch in the second half of the campaign.

Despite taking the lead Real were pegged back by a Antoine Griezmann goal that itself is the Frenchman’s 25th of the season.

Valdano believes that a reported €100m bid by Barcelona this summer may be good business in the current market.

“Griezmann is the best striker, a good midfielder and he contributes a lot in defence.

“With the market the way it is, he is cheap at the price.”

How far has Bale’s form dipped?

Gareth Bale has not had the success that everyone has come to expect from the Welsh star this season, largely due to niggling injuries, but how poor is he playing by his high standards?

In fact he is having a better season than he did last year in which he managed just seven goals, two assists and 20 key passes in 19 La Liga appearances. This season he already has 11 goals and the same number of assists but compared to the previous three seasons there has been a drop. NaijaBet.com

In the three seasons from 2013 until summer 2016 Bale scored 47 goals, managed 31 assists and made 108 key passes. Those are impressive numbers but whether they justify the huge transfer fee will remain open to debate.

One thing is certain, Real Madrid need the Welshman back to his best if they are to secure a third consecutive Champions League title, the fourth in total since he joined the club. NaijaBet.com
