Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists he thought it was a “joke” when he heard the news that Barcelona lost to Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Going into the match 4-1 down on aggregate, Eusebio Di Francesco’s men needed to win 3-0 on the night to progress to the semi-finals, and as Kostas Manolas glanced a header past Marc-Andre ter Stegen in the dying moments of the match, that feat was achieved.
Since then, Klopp has revealed his shock at hearing the results in the Italian capital.
He told reporters (according to Goal): “I walked up the stairs and someone told me.
“I thought it was a joke. Not that I don’t respect Roma, they are fantastic team. I just wasn’t expecting it, but knew it was possible.”
