FA forced to apologise for tweet about Harry Kane after FA Cup semi-final

The FA have apologised to Tottenham Hotspur and leading scorer Harry Kane after a tweet sent out by the official FA Twitter account went viral, as it was seen to be mocking the England forward.

The message was sent out following Manchester United’s 2-1 FA Cup semi-final victory over Spurs. Chris Smalling put in a strong performance at Wembley to keep his England colleague Kane quiet which prompted the tweet.

The tweet read: Chris Smalling, “What’s in your pocket?” and included a video of himself saying, “Harry Kane”.

An FA spokesman said: “We have written to both clubs to apologise for any offence caused.”

The north Londoners face Watford at Wembley next as Mauricio Pochettino attempts to tighten his side’s grip on Champions League qualification with a top-four finish.
