Why Borussia Dortmund teammates enjoy Jadon Sancho’s “carefree” attitude

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl believes the “carefree attitude” displayed by Jadon Sancho is a source of inspiration for his teammates.

The 18-year-old forward swapped Manchester City for the Bundesliga powerhouse last summer and he’s not looked back since, already making 10 appearances for the Ruhr-based club.

Weigl, an ever-present since breaking into Dortmund’s first-team, has been impressed by the English youngster and feels his demeanour is a benefit for those around him.

“Currently, we’re set up very offensively, which obviously means that we concede some chances every now and then because our attackers will be attacking-minded in some situations,” he said, via Goal.

“I also think that Jadon Sancho’s carefree attitude helps us quite a bit because he doesn’t worry but just plays football. We should keep that going.”

History maker

Sancho, who inherited Ousmane Dembele’s No.7 jersey, recently became the youngest Englishman to register a goal in the Bundesliga when he found the net against Bayer Leverkusen in a game in which Dortmund ran out 4-0 winners, with Sancho assisting two of those goals.

To date, he’s featured across 10 matches for the senior side, and has been involved in four goals: scoring once and creating a further three – with the remaining one coming in their 1-1 draw at Hertha Berlin in January, the Londoner setting up Shinji Kagawa to snatch an equaliser.

Third-placed Dortmund take on Mainz in 14th at home on Saturday in the Bundesliga.
