Sergio Ramos: ‘All I’m missing is for Firmino to accuse me of giving him a cold’

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has sarcastically responded to further comments on Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah’s injury, claiming he was just “one drop of sweat” away from injuring Roberto Firmino.

Ramos and Salah collided together in the Champions League final which resulted in the Egyptian dislocating his shoulder and having to leave the match prematurely.

Madrid went on to beat Jurgen Klopp’s side 3-1 with two mistakes from Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius helping the Spanish side on to their third European title in a row.

Karius’ mistakes could have been due to a concussion which was induced by a challenge from Ramos himself and was later confirmed by doctors.

Speaking to reporters (via AS) after hearing the Karius announcement, Ramos sarcastically responded to claims that the injuries sustained to the Liverpool players were intentional.

“Bloody hell, they’ve given this a lot of attention, the Salah thing… I didn’t want to speak because everything is magnified.

“I see the play well, he grabs my arm first and I fell to the other side, the injury happened to the other arm and they said that I gave him a judo hold.

“After the goalkeeper said that I dazed him with a clash. I am only missing Firmino saying that he got a cold because a drop of my sweat landed on him.”

When asked whether he had contacted Salah after the incident, Ramos confirmed that the two had been in contact. However, Ramos also added that he feels people are more aggravated with him due to how successful he and his side have been across the last few seasons.

“I spoke with Salah through messages he was quite good.

“He could have played if he got an injection for the second half, I have done it sometimes but when Ramos does something like this, it sticks a little bit more.

“I don’t know if it’s because you’re at Madrid for so long and win for so long that people look at it a different way.”

Ramos is captain of the Spanish team that will be travelling to Russia for the 2018 World Cup.

Spain’s first game in Group B is against Iberian-rivals Portugal on June 15, before later games against Iran and Morocco.
