Chelsea captain John Terry will miss Today’s Champions League last-16 second-leg tie with Paris St-Germain at Stamford Bridge because of a hamstring injury sustained in February.

“It hurts as a player not to be involved, but sometimes you have to let the injury settle,” said the defender.

French champions PSG won the first leg in Paris 2-1.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani scored for PSG, but John Obi Mikel claimed an away goal for Chelsea in what is Guus Hiddink’s only defeat since being appointed interim manager in December.

Costa’s return to action has been welcomed by Hiddink, with the striker now rediscovering his best form after disappointing at the start of the season.

“I’m very proud of him, the way he’s playing and, going not over the edge, but he likes to fight in the real way of the game,” Hiddink said.

“That’s what we like. I protect him and support him when he’s doing what he has done in my period at Chelsea.

“He frequently is scoring now, since December, January. Before he had this problem not scoring, as did the team. Let’s see and hope he can make it to the European level as well.”

PSG boss Laurent Blanc, who will make a late decision on the fitness of midfielder Marco Verratti (groin), said of Costa: “I’m a big fan of him as a player. We know all about him as an individual, as a man. He’s someone who likes contact, likes to engage in a bit of provocation. But we’re used to it.

“I’ll tell my players not to respond to that, to keep cool in the face of provocations. In order to perform very well you need to maximize what you’ve got and keep all 11 players on the pitch.”
