Mohamed Salah addresses Messi comparisons – and his social media dig at Man Utd

Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah remains humbled by comparisons to Lionel Messi and has insisted that his light prod at Manchester United fans on social media was in pure jest.

Salah became Europe and England’s leading goalscorer as he netted his 36th goal in all competitions this season against Watford on Saturday.

The Egyptian’s small stature, creative vision, speed, prolific goalscoring and ability to dribble past all of his opponents has inevitably led to comparisons to legendary Lionel Messi.

“Of course, when you are compared with a big player like that it is very good,” Salah said when asked about the likening. NaijaBet.com

The 25-year-old then addressed his tongue-in-cheek jab on social media last week when he seemed to poke at heartbroken Manchester United fans fresh from being knocked out of the Champions League in spectacular fashion by Sevilla.

Almost immediately after the Red Devils’ 2-1 loss at Old Trafford, Salah took to Twitter and wrote: “The UCL draw can’t some enough!”

The Egypt international responded to his Tweet: “As for being active on social media, I sometimes go on it and follow things. At the end of the day, social media for me is something you do for fun.

“I can’t let it affect me, change my mood or change my perspective on life. I’m not even bothered by it. NaijaBet.com

“I can go on it for joking around, like the funny thing that happened last week. It was funny but it’s all over now.”

Liverpool will be facing Manchester City over two legs in the quarter-finals of Europes’ elite competition.

How Man Utd fans reacted to the dig

Man United were knocked out of the Champions League just days after registering a 2-1 Premier League win over Liverpool, and so Red Devils fans couldn’t resist returning the favour after Salah wrote the Tweet. NaijaBet.com

Salah was unable to find the back of the net at Old Trafford, who was well marshalled by opposition defender Ashley Young.
