Patrick Kluivert wants son Justin to join Barcelona

Patrick Kluivert has encouraged his son Justin Kluivert to follow in his footsteps by moving to Barcelona when he decides to leave Ajax.

Kluivert snr enjoyed an illustrious career at the Camp Nou during his playing days, scoring 122 goals in 257 appearances across all competitions for the Catalonian giants.

And the former Barca forward has now pressed his son to sign for the La Liga club amid speculation surrounding the 18-year-old’s future at the Johan Cruyff Arena. NaijaBet.com

Justin Kluivert – like his father – hails from the famed Ajax academy, and after featuring sporadically last season, the winger has emerged as one of Europe’s hottest prospects this campaign, receiving his first senior call-up to the national side for matches against England and Portugal this international break.

The 18-year-old has mustered 21 starts in the Eredivisie under the tutelage of Erik ten Hag this season, and his fine form has been rewarded by national coach Ronald Koeman. NaijaBet.com

His scintillating performances have also alerted some of Europe’s elite, and Kluivert Snr believes his son should stave off attention from potential Premier League suitors, and join the ranks at Barcelona.

“I’m very proud of him. He’s doing very good at Ajax,” Patrick Kluivert is quoted by the Daily Mail.

“He’s now a first XI player. If he’s playing like this in the long-term, he could be one important player in the future. NaijaBet.com

“Of course, I prefer that he goes to Barcelona but in football everything can happen.

“He’s an adult, he can make his own decisions but he’s already said it’s a dream for him to play for Barcelona. But you never know in football.”

His exploits this season have seen the slick winger net seven times for the Dutch outfit in the Ereivisie, including a hat-trick against Roda JC, while he has also managed to assist his teammates four times, and pick up three Man of the Match awards in the process.

The teenager did not feature in the Oranje’s 1-0 loss to England, which means he is still yet to earn his first senior international cap, which could come against Portugal on Monday.
