No one can defend against Mo Salah at 100%, says Van Dijk

No one can defend against Mo Salah at 100%, says Van Dijk

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk believes no one can stop teammate Mohamed Salah when he’s in the zone.

The 25-year-old Egyptian forward is enjoying a productive first season with the Reds after joining from Serie A giants Roma for a reported £36.9 million last summer.

His efforts, combined with his team’s overall play, sees Jurgen Klopp’s men fighting for a top-two Premier League finish and European glory, and Van Dijk feels he’s got the tools to put their Champions League quarter-final opponents Manchester City to the sword.

“That’s what everyone knows. That’s how we feel as well,” he said, as reported by Reuters.

“He’s that kind of player that you just need to be on your best. When he is 100 percent and in the zone then he can beat anyone.

“There are ways to stop him but I’m not going to tell you because I don’t want our opponents to think about it.”

Salah’s wonderous season

An ever-present under the leadership of Jurgen Klopp, Salah has registered 37 goals across 41 matches for Liverpool whilst assisting a further 10 for his teammates. NaijaBet.com

His goal against Crystal Palace over the weekend moved him five goals ahead of Tottenham Hotspur marksman Harry Kane in the race for this season’s Premier League golden boot – Salah, after 31 matches played, has 29 goals to his name.

Salah in the process equalled the league’s record for most matches scored in a 38 game season. Cristiano Ronaldo (2007/08) and Robin van Persie (2012/13) now share the record of 21 matches with the prolific Egyptian international. NaijaBet.com

Salah, though, has got quite a bit to go to become Liverpool’s most prolific goalscorer in a single campaign – the present record is held by club legend Ian Rush, who bagged 47 during the 1983/84 season.

Liverpool will be hoping he can close the gap on Rush when the Reds welcome Man City to Anfield on Wednesday evening.
