Valencia wonderkid signs new deal with €100m release clause

Valencia youngster Ferran Torres has signed a contract extension until 2021 which includes a €100m release clause.

The 18-year-old broke into Los Che’s first team last November and has since been a part of manager Marcelino García Toral’s plans.

Widely considered as one of the biggest prospects in Spanish football, the move by Valencia is an indication that Torres is part of their long-term future and the teenager is happy to remain at his boyhood club.

“I am delighted with this contract,” he told the club’s official website.

“I have been at this club since I was a 7-year-old and I want to continue here for many years to come. NaijaBet.com

“I have been fighting to play for this club my entire life and now I want to repay the confidence that has been shown in me by the coach, by the club and by the fans.”

First 2000-born player in La Liga

A month after making his Valencia debut the Foios-born winger made a nine-minute cameo away to Eibar marking his first La Liga appearance.

It was a piece of history as Torres subsequently became the first player born in the year 2000 to feature in a Spanish top-flight game. His contribution, though, was minimal as Los Che ran out 2-1 losers.

He later became the first of his generation to start a La Liga game, this time making an impact by assisting Geoffrey Kondogbia for his Valencia’s only goal in a 1-1 draw with Atheltic Club in February. NaijaBet.com

In doing so, Torres became the third 2000-born player to register an assist in Europe’s top five leagues after Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Manchester City’s Phil Foden.
