Edinson Cavani didn’t realise he broke another Ibrahimovic record in recent PSG game

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani broke Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s goalscoring record in the club’s last game and he didn’t even realise.

Trailing 2-0 to mid-table Guingamp, PSG fought back – courtesy of two goals from Cavani – to secure a 2-2 draw and save themselves some embarrassment.

With just 15 minutes remaining, a Cavani double consisting of a penalty and late strike earned the French champions a point.

Cavani was tied with Ibrahimovic on 113 league goals going into the match, but the Uruguayan’s two goals helped him over the line.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Cavani revealed that he had no idea that he had broken yet another goalscoring record at the French club.

“I didn’t know that I had set a new record, but I’m happy to have written a little more history with this shirt,” Cavani told Canal+ (via Goal).

The Uruguayan has had another highly successful season at the club, with PSG crowned Ligue 1 champions well before the end of the current campaign.

However, the side received criticism from fans, with some claiming that the players were already planning their holidays, a claim Cavani firmly denies.

“No, we are not on holiday already. This is not true,” he added.

“Sometimes, there are difficult matches. We have won the Ligue 1 title, but we were still trying to concentrate as hard as possible – at 2-0 down, it was important that we at least fought back to draw.”

PSG wrapped up the title with five games to spare, having beat their closest rivals Monaco 7-1 to give them an unassailable lead at the top of the table.
