Ramos urges Ronaldo to publicly explain himself after comments on Madrid future

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has urged Cristiano Ronaldo to clarify comments made on his future after their Champions League win.

Los Blancos beat Premier League side Liverpool 3-1 in the final in Kiev thanks to two goals from Gareth Bale and one from Karim Benzema.

The win was their 13th Champions League title in total and third in succession, with Ronaldo extending his own tally to five.

But the Portuguese did cast doubts over his future at Real, speaking ominously after the game.

“It was very nice to be at Real Madrid,” he said after the game (via Marca). “In the coming days I will give a response to the fans, who have always been at my side.”

And while Ramos is not worried by the comments, the Spaniard would like his team-mate to clarify what he told reporters.

“I suppose he will have been speaking about a summary of the season,” he said, as reported by Marca.

“If there is something there, he must clarify it today.

“He is a key piece for us. He could not be in a better place.”

While Benzema also had his say on the rumours: “Where is Cristiano going? He stays with us”

Ramos hit headlines for the wrong reasons during the final, after ending Mohamed Salah’s night early causing a shoulder injury with a fall that would have easily been avoided.

The pair tangled midway through the first half, with Ramos tumbling and holding Salah’s arm causing the Egyptian to go down with him. Ramos was then shown to catch Loris Karius in the face in the second-half, minutes before the German’s mistake led to the first goal.

Ronaldo’s competition

Ronaldo had a fairly quiet game against Liverpool, with substitute Bale taking most of the plaudits for his influence from the bench.

But despite that, the Portuguese remains Mr. Champions League with a record fifth trophy since 1992 (four with Madrid and one with Manchester United). Going back to its inception as the European Cup in 1955 only Francisco Gento of Real (six) has more.

Ronaldo also used this season to extend his lead at the top of the goalscoring charts with 15 goals – the most this campaign – taking his total tally to 120, 20 more than his nearest rival (Lionel Messi, 100).
