Egypt FA optimistic over Salah’s World Cup chances despite Klopp comments

Egypt are confident that Mohamed Salah will make it to the World Cup despite ominous comments from Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Salah left the pitch in tears after Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos dragged him to the ground during the Reds’ 3-1 defeat in Kiev.

“It’s a really serious injury,” said Klopp, reports the BBC.

“He is in the hospital for an X-ray. It’s either the collarbone or the shoulder itself. It doesn’t look good.”

But the Egyptian FA tweeted that Salah had only sprained the ligaments in his shoulder: “Dr. Mohammed Abu Ola, an elected physician, reported that the Liverpool medical staff had updated him after conducting an X-ray on Salah’s shoulder. […] According to this diagnosis he was optimistic that Salah will be available for the national team in the World Cup.”

Liverpool managed nine shots in the first half with Mohamed Salah on the pitch and none between his substitution for Adam Lallana and the interval.

Madrid’s triumph was arguably due to Liverpool’s misfortune more than the quality they showed on Saturday – save for Bale’s bicycle kick – as two blunders from Loris Karius handed Madrid the goals that made the difference in the final.

Salah has 20 days to recover until his country’s first game against Uruguay in the World Cup on 15 June.
