Fernando Torres’ agent reveals two options for exit-bound Atletico striker

Fernando Torres will likely join a club in US top flight Major League Soccer or China when his contract with Atletico Madrid expires this summer, according to his agent.

Torres, 34, has already announced that he will be departing from his boyhood club Atletico this summer when his contract expires, but his destination is yet to be confirmed.

The former Liverpool and Chelsea striker initially rejoined Los Rojiblancos on loan in 2015, before completing a permanent transfer in 2016, but his time at the Wanda Metropolitano is now coming to a close, and his agent has revealed Torres’ options going forward.

Antonio Sanz, director of communication with Torres’ representatives Bahia Internacional, insists Europe and the Middle East remain out of the question for the striker, instead confirming that the Spaniard has two options, MLS or the Chinese Super League.

Speaking to reporters, according to Football Espana, Sanz said: “There is no team yet.

“But we do have ideas. One option is the U.S. and another China. Not Europe, nor the Middle East.

The Atletico academy graduate has been used sporadically by Diego Simeone this season, starting in just three La Liga appearances, while the capital club also re-signed striker Diego Costa from Chelsea earlier this campaign.

During his second stint with the Madrid club, Torres has scored 34 goals in all competitions since 2015, while in his first spell at the Vicente Calderon, he scored 91 goals in all competitions before completing a move to the Premier League with Liverpool in 2007.

Torres is yet to win silverware with his boyhood club, but he could achieve that feat this season, with Atletico still vying in the Europa League, and are set to lock horns with Sporting Lisbon on Thursday night in the quarter-final of the competition.

Simeone’s men are 2-0 up on aggregate, and although Torres was an unused sub for the first leg, he will certainly be looking to get some minutes under the belt in the decider.
