Jesse Lingard has praised Marcus Rashford’s mentality following the Manchester United striker’s match-winning display against Liverpool at the weekend.
Despite being used in all-but three league games, the 20-year-old has struggled to cement a place in United’s first XI this season, starting only 13 of his 27 Premier League appearances.
“I think it’s his mentality. He has got good people around him, and they always assure him he is in a good place,” Lingard told ESPN.
“You can’t be depressed around me, I’m always winding him up. It’s good that you can be around him to have a laugh and reassure him that it’s going to come good and that if he gets a chance he will perform and he has done that.
Rashford’s season in numbers

In the Premier League, he has made 20 key passes, five of which have been assists, whilst Paul Pogba (50) is the only Manchester United player to have completed more take-ons than Rashford’s 40.
On Monday, his manager expressed his delight at Rashford’s recent performance against Liverpool.
“He started, he had a good match and I’m not just speaking about scoring goals because, for me, the analysis of a performance is much more than analysing the number of goals or assists,” said Jose Mourinho, as reported by the club’s website.
