International women’s team furious after adidas use stunning ex-Miss Colombia in kit photoshoot – not them

Colombia’s female football team might have twice been runners-up in the Copa America Femenina but they don’t appear to be top of the game in the looks department after a model was used to show off the new strip. NaijaBet.com

Paulina Vega Dieppa, a stunning Colombian actress, TV host and former Miss Colombia, was chosen to be photographed wearing the women’s kit.

And to make matters worse national football star James Rodriguez, currently on loan to Bayern Munich, was chosen to sport the men’s version.

The decision by adidas, the Colombian teams’ kit supplier, to select a famous model to wear the new strip during its high-profile launch caused online speculation as to whether the women were deemed good-looking enough. NaijaBet.com

After adidas released the images, Vanessa Cordoba – goalkeeper with Independiente Santa Fe and the women’s national team – expressed her surprise on social media and said the likes of striker Catalina Usme should have been modelling it.

Cordoba said: “I have nothing against adidas, and I acknowledge that football belongs to everyone, whether they play or not. I also appreciate that they gave the shirt to a successful and influential woman for advertising purposes.

“However, in terms of respect and merit, one of the players should have received it first. NaijaBet.com

It’s fine that they include celebrities to help promote football, I just don’t agree that Paulina Vega should wear the shirt before, say, Catalina Usme (striker for the Colombian national team)”.

One day after the storm erupted on social media, the Colombian men’s team posted a message on Twitter to support the women’s side: “Cordoba’s unhappiness is completely justified.

“Adidas made an involuntary mistake that we’re sure they’ll make up for.” NaijaBet.com
