Man Utd players need to show more desire, says Nemanja Vidic

Former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has criticised his former club’s current squad, believing that they need to show more desire throughout the season.

Vidic, who spent almost nine years at the club and won five league titles as well as the Champions League under Sir Alex Ferguson’s leadership, was speaking after United’s 1-0 home defeat to relegation-threatened West Bromwich Albion.

Jay Rodriguez’s second-half goal condemned the Red Devils to defeat and meant rivals Manchester City were able to clinch the Premier League title with five games to spare. NaijaBet.com

United’s only opportunity to win silverware is in the FA Cup, while their second place league position is less certain with Liverpool closing the gap to just a solitary point. NaijaBet.com

Vidic, speaking on Sky Sports, said that Jose Mourinho’s side need to show more desire and energy if they are to try and improve for next season’s campaign.

“Today they didn’t show what we expected, the energy going forward, that burst or sprint. It was too slow, which was disappointing,” he explained.

“That is my worry, I’d like to see United playing faster, quicker with the ball. It’s too many touches, that’s the problem, especially against smaller teams. NaijaBet.com

“They have a good team, good players, but sometimes I think the players have to show desire, show energy, run more than other teams.

“They didn’t move well without the ball, they didn’t move fast. The players didn’t perform the way they wanted.

“It’s sad to see Man United lose at home to West Brom, a team who have won just three games all season.” NaijaBet.com

United face Tottenham Hotspur next week in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium with either Chelsea or Southampton potential opposition in the final in May. Before then, they travel to Bournemouth on Wednesday for a midweek Premier League game.
