Mohamed Salah denied Liverpool hat-trick as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scoops club’s Goal of the Season award

Mohamed Salah has been named Liverpool’s Player of the Season and First Team Players’ Player of the Season whilst Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain collected Goal of the Season for his long-range effort against Manchester City.

The Egyptian winger added to his individual trophy haul on Thursday evening as he collected two awards at Liverpool’s end of season ceremony.

Salah was voted Player of the Season by fans and First Team Players’ Player of the Season by his peers, adding two more trophies to what is a quite ridiculous list of personal accolades. Predict the Premier League games this weekend.

The Reds’ forward has already broken the record for most Premier League Player of the Month awards in a single season, picking up his third of the campaign in March.

However, despite scoring an incredible 43 goals across all competitions – which has seen him win six in-house Goal of the Month awards – not one was deemed special enough to pip teammate Oxlade-Chamberlain to the Goal of the Season accolade.

The former Arsenal midfielder’s long-range effort against Manchester in the Champions League was voted as the Reds’ best strike of 2017/18 by their fans.

Academy graduate Trent Alexander-Arnold was named Young Player of the Season with the 19-year-old’s Champions League displays against Manchester City epitomising his rapid development.

Meanwhile, Harry Wilson was named Academy Player of the Season after scoring 12 times in 12 games for the U23 side in the Premier League 2 before continuing his fine form in front of goal at Hull, finding the back of the net on seven occasions in 13 appearances.

Salah will now be hoping to cap a phenomenal debut campaign for the Reds by scoring against Brighton on Sunday.

Currently level on 31 goals with Alan Shearer, Cristiano Ronaldo and Luis Suarez for the most goals in a single 38-game Premier League season, one more will, therefore, see him make history in the competition.

Chris Hughton’s side are however one of three teams to stop the Egyptian in the league this season.

If they manage to do so again on the final day they will join Manchester United and Swansea as an elite trio of sides that escaped the goalscoring wrath of Salah.

Despite not winning the Goal of the Season award, Salah eventually picked up his third trophy of the evening by flying out to the FWA awards, where he was officially handed the Player of the Season prize.
