Newcastle confirm option-to-buy for on-loan goalkeeper, but not for Chelsea’s Kenedy

Newcastle United confirmed that they do not have an option to buy Chelsea’s on-loan Brazilian Kenedy as part of the deal they struck when bringing the player to the club back in January.

During the club fans forum, it was announced that Kenedy does not have an option within his loan contract that would allow the Magpies to buy the Brazilian permanently.

This will come as a disappointment to many Newcastle fans as Kenedy has been one of the club’s top performers since arriving on the 23rd of January.

In his 11 appearances for the club, he has bagged himself two goals but it is his work ethic that has impressed many fans more than his attacking play.

He leads his team in average tackles per game (2.7) and has helped get the club over the line to ensure another season of Premier League football will be enjoyed by the St. James Park faithful.

He is one of several key men to have helped Newcastle grab enough points to stay up and in fact the Magpies have only lost three games since the Brazilian joined the club, two of those defeats came in the last two games with safety already assured.

It has been confirmed that the club has an option to sign on loan ‘keeper Martin Dubravka on a permanent basis from Sparta Prague. The stopper is currently on loan from the Czech side but does have an option to buy in his contract. The 29-year-old Slovakian has made 9 appearances for the club this season.

There is still some doubt about the future of Newcastle’s manager Rafa Benitez with the Spaniard being heavily linked to the Arsenal job but he has denied he was on the brink of leaving. In fact, he was more than confident that his immediate future remains with the Magpies.

“Yes, in principal we are relaxed,” said Newcastle representatives.

“We have one more year of contract and now the board are trying that we talk a little bit about the future because the talk now is always about ‘projects’.

“With so much investment it is increasingly difficult, but they want to link us to the club for more time so that we can make a stronger team if possible,” added Benitez.

Benitez is a popular figure in Tyneside and is probably the manager that has endeared himself to the fan base more than any other Newcastle boss since Kevin Keegan was in the dugout.

Newcastle are safe from any relegation worries despite losing their last two outings and currently sit 10th in the Premier League. They have three games left this season with trips to Watford and Tottenham up next before finishing the season at home to Chelsea.
