Newcastle have new mentality – Benitez

Manager Rafa Benitez is confident he has made the necessary changes at Newcastle United for the club to successfully compete at Championship level.

The Magpies are back in the second tier of English football following relegation from the Premier League in May.

Since then, eight new players have arrived in the North East, while 15 have left the club.

Speaking on Thursday, just 24 hours before they face Fulham in their first competitive fixture of the season, the Spaniard said: “We had to change something to create a positive atmosphere.

“When you change players, you change the mentality, the approach. We are bringing in players who know the Championship, and the mentality of the team has changed a lot.

“We know the Championship is difficult and we know every game will be complicated.”

And Benitez admits there may be more squad changes at St James’ Park before the end of August
