Neymar admits “tension” with PSG teammate Edinson Cavani earlier this season

Neymar has admitted there were problems between himself and PSG teammate Edinson Cavani earlier in the season.

The difficulties appeared to surface after the duo clashed in a Ligue 1 match back in September against Lyon, with the pair arguing on the pitch over who would take a penalty.

Neymar, whose PSG side were confirmed as champions after beating Monaco 7-1 on Sunday evening, has since confirmed the feud between him and his South American counterpart at the time of the incident but believes the story was blown out of proportion, with the two now on good terms. NaijaBet.com

“It was made to sound bigger than it really was,” he told ‘Altas Horas’ on TV Globo (according to Sport).

“Of course there was a certain tension, friction with Cavani, but we resolved it quickly.

“Three days after it happened, we all sat down and we talked. We’re two great player, but we’re also people and we had to resolve the personal side of things. NaijaBet.com

“But the reports which came out were much bigger, I think because that’s what sells: people oversell the stories, talk about things they shouldn’t.”

Cavani was in pursuit to become PSG’s all time top-goalscoring at that point in the season – a record he now holds having surpassed Zlatan Ibrahimovic in January – so the “friction” was perhaps understandable. NaijaBet.com

However, alongside Mbappe, the three have since gone on to form one of Europe’s more devastating tridents, scoring 56 Ligue 1 goals between them, while also netting a collective 17 in the Champions League.

Neymar is currently sidelined for the season after suffering a broken bone in his foot, though he is expected to be back in time for the World Cup. NaijaBet.com
