Rio Ferdinand: Jesse Lingard is good enough to have played in my Man Utd team

Rio Ferdinand has hailed the impact of Manchester United starlet Jesse Lingard, stating the midfielder could have played in his all-star Red Devils team.

The England international’s form has been impressive in recent weeks, scoring not only the sole goal in the Three Lions’ victory against the Netherlands but also playing an important role in Man United’s win over Swansea at the weekend. NaijaBet.com

The 25-year-old helped create Romelu Lukaku’s opening goal while also providing the assist for Alexis Sanchez’s strike. Lingard has scored eight Premier League goals in 27 appearances this term, creating 24 chances.

“Yeah, he could have played in my era, in my Man United team,” Ferdinand told BT Sport.

“He’s that good. He would’ve been a player so involved in that team.”

Lingard has registered a further four assists for his teammates in the Premier League so far this season, making 11 clearances, nine blocks and maintaining a pass accuracy of 87%.

Ferdinand was part of a prolific Red Devils squad who, under Sir Alex Ferguson, lifted almost every trophy under the sun. Alongside the retired England international were players such as Paul Scholes, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez. NaijaBet.com

Among the 39-year-old’s trophy collection are six Premier League titles, one Champions League trophy and two League Cups.

Manchester United travel to the Etihad this weekend to face Manchester City, where a win against their crosstown foes for Pep Guardiola’s side will ensure they clinch the Premier League title on home turf.
