Roque Mesa: I need more game time but don’t regret Sevilla move

Roque Mesa has no regrets joining Sevilla from Swansea City and would love to remain beyond his loan spell, but that will be dependent on assurances of playing time.

The 28-year-old Spanish midfielder swapped south Wales for Andalusia in January only months after joining the Swans from La Liga outfit Las Palmas for a reported £11m.

Since joining the five-time Europa League winners he’s barely featured under Vincenzo Montella, however Mesa wouldn’t want to be anywhere else and is already thinking about becoming a permanent addition. NaijaBet.com

“I have no regrets about joining Sevilla and I would repeat the choice another thousand times,” he told Sevilla’s official media channel.

“This was not the first time I tried to join the club as beforehand the move fell through, but they kept valuing me and now I am here.

“The fans have treated me very well, they have shown great belief in my ability and offer me plenty of encouragement, their support is a source of strength for me.

“Would I renew? Of course, if there are chances to play because I love this city, the fans and the team…but I realise I would need more assurances.” NaijaBet.com

Mesa’s season

Mesa featured across 11 matches in the Premier League this season, creating five chances but not finding the back of the net himself.

He amassed a passing accuracy of 86%, 61.2% of his 467 passes going forward to a teammate, and won five of his attempted eight take-ons.

Since returning to La Liga with Sevilla the Telde-born footballer has only made two appearances, totalling 67 minutes. NaijaBet.com

Again he boasts a passing accuracy of 86% but has failed to create a single chance for Los Rojiblancos.

Roque Mesa will be hoping to feature for Sevilla Wednesday night as they try to wrestle back a result from Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League quarter-finals, with the Germans leading on aggregate 2-1.
