Sergio Ramos: Maybe I’ll meet Iniesta in China

Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has suggested he will follow the lead of Andres Iniesta by moving to the Chinese Super League when he eventually leaves Real Madrid.

Ramos played 90 minutes in Sunday’s 2-2 Clasico draw at Camp Nou – he is now just 11 games away from making his 400th La Liga appearance for Madrid.

Meanwhile, Andres Iniesta played his final Clasico after announcing he will leave Barcelona at the end of the current campaign

The 33-year-old, who has won 32 major honours in his 16 seasons at Barcelona, is expected to sign for a Chinese Super League club this summer.

And after El Clasico, Ramos hinted he too will consider a move to China when his Madrid career comes to an end.

“Maybe Iniesta and I will meet in China in a few years,” Ramos said, according to Marca.

On the match, he added: “We played a good game. We would have liked to break their unbeaten run, but this was the right path for preparing the final in Kiev.”

Ramos gets Iniesta’s final El Clasico jersey

It’s not always clear during the Clasico, but there is a lot of respect between the players of Barcelona and Real Madrid, especially among the Spanish contingent.

That respect was on show after Sunday’s clash, when Ramos revealed Iniesta had given him his final El Clasico jersey.

In a Twitter post, Ramos said: “Beyond what happened in the field of play, yesterday will be remembered as the Clasico of Andres Iniesta. It will miss you, my friend beyond what happened on the pitch, last night will be remembered as Iniesta’s Clasico. You will be missed, my friend.”

The keen-eyed among you will notice Iniesta wrote a message on the shirt, which reads: “To my friend Sergio, for the many moments together and the others as rivals, thanks and good luck.”
