Skriniar wants to emulate Napoli all-time top-scorer Marek Hamsik

Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar has revealed how he is aiming to replicate the career of fellow Slovakian Marek Hamsik.

Skriniar joined Inter last summer for a fee of £23m, and has since become a regular in defence for the Nerazzurri – making 30 appearances in all competitions this season – as his side sit fourth in Serie A, with the aim of Champions League qualification for next season firmly within reach.

The season prior to signing for Inter – while plying his trade for fellow Serie A outfit Sampdoria – Skriniar finished the campaign as the youngest defender to have made at least 35 appearances in the league. NaijaBet.com

His form has drawn praise from the football world, which has resulted in the centre-back finishing second in the Slovak Footballer of the Year competition, behind Napoli legend Hamsik.

Speaking at the ceremony, reports Football Italia, Skriniar expressed his pride at playing for Inter, and how he aims to follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Hamsik.

Skriniar said: “I like Inter, I’m very happy to be there.

“It would be nice to have a career like Hamsik’s at Napoli.”

Why Marek Hamsik is big deal at Napoli

It was the seventh time that Hamsik has won the Footballer of the Year award, further cementing his place in Slovakian football history.

Hamsik has been at Napoli for over a decade since his move from Serie B outfit Brescia for a now bargain transfer fee of £4.8m. He is the club’s all-time leading scorer with 119 goals in 492 appearances in all competitions.

The creative midfielder has been voted in the Serie A Team of the Year three times, provided the most assists in Serie A in two seasons, and has also won two Coppa Italia trophies with Napoli (2011-12 & 2013-14). NaijaBet.com
