Truter promises attack v Sundowns

Cape Town All Stars coach Brandon Truter says his side will not “park the bus” when they host Mamelodi Sundowns in the first round of the Nedbank Cup at the Athlone Stadium on Friday night.

Truter says he admires the quality of the Sundowns side, hailing them as greats, but says his team will not be overawed and will go for the win against their more illustrious opponents.

“We are not parking the bus, but defending is part all the players’ role. Whether you are higher up the pitch or a bit deeper, you are expected to play your role.

“For us it is more about organisation and structure, not so much about parking the bus.”

All Stars’ last two games have finished goalless, but Truter says that is not because they have had a defensive approach.

“We have dominated our last three or four matches in terms of possession. It is just missed chances and a lack of composure in scoring situations.

“We don’t set up to draw 0-0, we go out to win the game, whoever we play.”

Many lower league clubs field weakened teams in the Nedbank Cup against top opposition to give youngsters and fringe players a chance, but Truter says he is not likely to do that.

“This is a great opportunity and I am leaning towards fielding a strong side.”
