Unai Emery confirms talks with Marco Verratti about his temper

Paris Saint-Germain boss Unai Emery has revealed that he has sat down with playmaker Marco Verratti regarding his temperament.

The 25-year-old Italian international recently saw red as PSG crashed out of the Champions League at the hands of defending champions Real Madrid. NaijaBet.com

It wasn’t the first time Verratti was sent off early and Emery, naturally concerned, discussed how to keep his emotions in check – with the Spanish tactician convinced he’ll be turning turning a new leaf.

“It’s true that the player has a lot of character,” he said (via AS).

“We spoke with him as it’s not the first time. He can improve his temperament. He needs to control his frustration in games, above all in the important games.

“But I have no doubts with him. Marco has progressed and he will keep doing so. He is a very important player for the present and the future of PSG.

“He knows that he needs to improve certain things. He is going to continue this this process to mature.” NaijaBet.com

Anger issues?

Verratti, who Andrea Pirlo named as his successor, joined the Parisians 2012 from boyhood club Pescara under then-manager Carlo Ancelotti.

He went on to accumulate 236 first-team appearances in all competitions, scoring eight goals and creating a further 43 chances.

Across his time in France so far he’s lifted 16 pieces of silverware including four Ligue 1 championships and three Coupe de France titles.

Aside from his playmaking skills, he’s quickly forged a reputation as a hot-headed individual – having accumulated 67 yellow cards and being dismissed on five occasions. NaijaBet.com

Since turning up in Ligue 1, only Yannick Cahuzac (50) has received more yellow cards than Verratti (48). When it comes to dismissals, he’s been sent off twice – with the aforementioned Cahuzac leading the way on 10.
