Kevin De Bruyne reveals who he voted Premier League Player of the Year

Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne believes that teammate David Silva is deserving of winning the Premier League Player of the Year award, after voting for Liverpool rival Mo Salah

Both De Bruyne and Silva have been in electric form this season for Pep Guardiola’s side as they look to seal the Premier League title this weekend at home to rivals Manchester United with six games to spare.

However, before that, City face Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday evening in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-finals, with De Bruyne and Silva lining up against Reds star Salah, who – like both City players – has been in prolific form this season.

Salah has been a revelation since joining Liverpool from Roma last summer and has 29 Premier League goals so far. Although they are both rivals to win the prestigious award come the end of the season, De Bruyne has voted for the Egypt international to win the Player of the Season accolade.

In an interview with BT Sport ahead of tonight’s fixture, De Bruyne was asked who he voted for and why: “I vote for Salah. Yeah.

“Because he deserves it. If it’s no one from our team then I think he deserves it.” NaijaBet.com

When quizzed on whether it was Salah’s goalscoring record or his surprising impact on arriving back in England, De Bruyne insisted that there was simply no other choice.

The Belgian midfielder explained: “No, I think I don’t like at what happened before. I wouldn’t know how to choose anybody else outside Salah if it’s not our team.”

De Bruyne was also asked whether he believes Salah would have voted for him to win the award: “I don’t know, I’m fair. If he wins he wins. I think he’s up there with Kane, me, David, the four best players of this year, constantly.

“I’m honest about voting.”

Rules state that a player cannot vote for a teammate to win the award, with De Bruyne revealing that his vote for Player of the Season would go to his teammate Silva if possible, who he described as “one of the best”. NaijaBet.com

“He can make the difference every time he wants to,” he explained.

“David is one of the best this season. Since I came here he’s been unbelievable. He’s helped my game in a lot of ways.

“I hope he can do what he’s done all season because when he plays we often win. I hope he’s in good form tomorrow.

“For me, he is [Player of the Year]. In the end, we cannot choose City players but if you look in our team, there are so many who could be [in contention for end-of-season awards].”

When asked about his own form, De Bruyne admitted that this season is probably his most consistent at the highest level and that he is proud of what he has achieved this year: “[This is] Probably the most complete. NaijaBet.com

“I play as a central-midfielder now and do a lot of stuff. I happy because I can play almost every minute without any problems and play at a level that is constantly very good, very high.

“That’s what I’m most pleased with.”
