Leroy Sane reminds me of Ryan Giggs, says Frank Lampard

Frank Lampard has compared Manchester City starlet Leroy Sane to Ryan Giggs, praising the winger’s intelligence and movement.

The German has shone for the league leaders this season, netting nine goals and registering 11 assists and creating a further 44 chances for his teammates.

He most recently scored the opening goal of City’s 3-1 victory over Everton on Saturday, which means that should the Sky Blues win against crosstown rivals Man United this weekend in the league, the title is theirs. NaijaBet.com

Lampard likened the German’s skill, technical ability and awareness on the ball to former Manchester United midfielder Ryan Giggs, who was a rapid left-sided player with terrific delivery and goalscoring threat like Sane.

“Leroy Sane reminds me of Ryan Giggs and how Liverpool cope with him will be a major factor in their Champions League quarter-final against Manchester City,” Lampard wrote in his column for the Evening Standard.

“Sane joined City from Schalke for an initial £37m in 2016 and he is already looking an absolute bargain given the current market.

“He is a superstar in the making, if not one already. The way Sane tiptoes through defences, his movement, his intelligence and speed makes me think back to what Giggs was like. NaijaBet.com

“But what I also love about him is that he’s happy to do the simple things and move the ball quickly.

“There are so many factors in the first leg on Wednesday night but I will be interested to see who plays up against Sane at right-back for Liverpool.”

All-English clash

City will be facing Liverpool in the crucial first leg of the Champions League quarter-final clash on Wednesday. As Lampard stated, Pep Guardiola will be looking at the ways in which he can use Sane to his own advantage in order to exploit Liverpool’s vulnerabilities in defence.

The German netted the equalising goal for City against Liverpool in January to make it 1-1, but the fixture ultimately finished 4-3 for the Reds, ending Guardiola’s unbeaten league campaign. NaijaBet.com

Liverpool are known for their defensive weakness and Trent Alexander-Arnold will be expected to fill in the role of right-back. The 19-year-old is an immense talent, though his youth does mean that he makes the occasional individual error – as seen during Liverpool’s narrow victory against Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

Both City and Liverpool are high-scoring teams that tend to go for the jugular immediately upon kick-off, with Wednesday’s fixture sure to be a classic match for the ages. NaijaBet.com
