Kaka: I regret leaving AC Milan for Real Madrid

Former Brazil international Kaka has revealed his regret over leaving AC Milan for Real Madrid in 2009.

Kaka made 307 appearances in all competitions for Milan between 2003 and 2009, scoring 104 goals and winning five major trophies.

He then joined Madrid for a fee in the region of £58m in the summer of 2009, the same transfer window as Cristiano Ronaldo. NaijaBet

Kaka struggled to replicate his Milan performances in Spain, playing 120 times before returning to the San Siro in 2013.

Now retired, the 35-year-old has hinted he should never have left Milan.

“In 2009 I accepted the proposal of Real Madrid, but I was completely destroyed there because I could not give what I had given Milan, I was completely lost,” Kaka told UOL Esporte, translated by Marca.

“Jose Mourinho was a difficult coach for me and we had a respectful but complicated relationship. When I thought he would give me a chance, I couldn’t prove to him that I was in good shape.

“I trained, I fought and I prayed a lot, but having not received the confidence of the coach, I realised that I could not work with him.

“The joy I had was to receive a message when he left Real Madrid and said that I was one of the most professional players he worked with.”

Kaka’s Real Madrid career in numbers

Despite his own admission of failure, Kake’s spell at Real Madrid could have been worse statistically.

The midfielder scored nine goals in 33 appearances during his first season in the Spanish capital.

His second campaign was hampered by injuries. Kaka made only 14 La Liga appearances in 2010-11, but still averaged a goal every other game, finding the net seven times.

A year later came his first La Liga title win, one of only two trophies he won during his time in Spain in after the Copa del Rey success of 2010-11.

Kaka bowed out by scoring five goals in 27 appearances across all competition in his final season at the Bernabeu.
