Zlatan Ibrahimovic: “A World Cup without me wouldn’t be a World Cup”

Zlatan Ibrahimovic says he will be at the World Cup in Russia this summer but refused to confirm whether he will play for Sweden in the tournament.

The 36-year-old, who scored twice on his debut for LA Galaxy last month, retired from international football after Sweden were eliminated in the group stages at Euro 2016.

He scored 62 goals in 116 appearances for his country, and there have been calls for him to return to international duty for one final major tournament.

Ibrahimovic appeared on American TV show Jimmy Kimmel Live this week but would not be drawn any further when asked whether he will play at the World Cup.

“I’m going to the World Cup, yes,” he told Kimmel.

The host then asked whether he will be wearing football boots or ordinary shoes in Russia, to which Ibrahimovic replied: “I just said I’m going to the World Cup. If I say more, people will hang me so I have to be careful what I say now. NaijaBet.com

RANKED: Zlatan Ibrahimovic at every club he’s played for

Whether or not Ibrahimovic does play for Sweden at the World Cup, he’ll almost certainly continue to tease fans about the possibility.

Indeed, the former Manchester United striker’s ego-driven persona was in overdrive during his appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

He has already made quite an impression on the Los Angeles public. Here are some of Ibrahimovic’s best quips and quotes from the interview.

“It has been a couple of years I’ve had my eyes on Los Angeles. And I wanted to give them a gift. I was thinking a long time and then one day it came – I should give myself. You’re welcome.”

“I’m not a typical Swedish guy, but I put Sweden on the map.”

“I had a vision before I come [to Los Angeles]. I know there is some earthquakes in Los Angeles, but this was me stepping in Los Angeles.”

“My confidence is very high. So whatever [sport] I would do I would be the one I am today. I chose football and I’m sorry for those fans that are cheering for other sports, because it would be the same thing.”

“No [I don’t worry about my teammates being in my shadow]. I make them superstars too. I’ll make them big, don’t worry.” NaijaBet.com
