Carlo Ancelotti confirms plans to take club role after Italy snub

Former AC Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he wants to coach a club team after spurning the chance to take over Italy national team.

It follows reports Ancelotti has ruled himself out of the running to become the new Italy head coach.

There would be plenty of suitors for Ancelotti on the club front, who has won three Champions League titles as well as the Premier League, Serie A, the Bundesliga and the Ligue 1 during an illustrious coaching career. Bet on Premier League this weekend.

Although Ancelotti was considered a contender to be the next Italy manager, he has no concerns over the man some corners of the Italian press say has been chosen to take the Azzurri forward.

Speaking to Milan TV, the 58-year-old manager revealed that he thought the national team would be in safe hands with Roberto Mancini while going on to say that he would prefer to take a role at club level.

“[Mancini] is an excellent coach with great international experience, the national team is in good hands,” said Ancelotti.

“I have personally chosen to train a club, I do not know if in Italy or abroad. I could also sit still because there are not too many concrete possibilities. Something will jump out.”

Asked whether that “something” would take him to Serie A, the former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain coach said: “There would be no problem in coming back… ”

Ancelotti won two Champions League titles in his time with Milan and revealed that he would love to see the club return to an elite level. Speaking about the new owners Ancelotti appeared hopeful, given time, that the club will rise to the top of the European game again.

“I met Fassone and Mirabelli, it is right that there is patience towards them because they have taken on a complicated situation,” he said.

“It will take time, because others run. But the basics are excellent. I met (Milan co-owner, Yonghong Li) a bit last summer, the important thing is that his heart beats when he sees Milan: the successes of Berlusconi have depended above all on this. In terms of managerial vacancies on the club front, Arsenal is one potential destination Ancelotti will have had his eye on. Last month Arsene Wenger announced he would be stepping down as manager after 22 years in charge.
