Arsene Wenger confirms Arsenal departure at the end of the season

Arsene Wenger has issued a statement confirming his departure from Arsenal at the end of the season.

Wenger, 68, has been in charge of the north London club since 1996, but after 22 years with the Gunners, the Frenchman has announced his shock decision just before Arsenal take on West Ham in the Premier League this weekend.

He told the club’s official website: “After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season.

“I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years.

“I managed the club with full commitment and integrity.

“I want to thank the staff, the players, the Directors and the fans who make this club so special. NaijaBet.com

“I urge our fans to stand behind the team to finish on a high.

“To all the Arsenal lovers take care of the values of the club.

“My love and support for ever.”

Wenger has come under increasing pressure from some sections of fans in recent seasons, with the club failing to challenge for the Premier League. NaijaBet.com

He could still end on a high note if his side triumph in the Europa League this season, with the north London club set to take on Atletico Madrid on April 26 and May 3 in the semi-final of the competition – taking the club to the Champions League next season for the new manager.
