Borussia Dortmund provide injury update on Michy Batushuayi amid World Cup fears

Borussia Dortmund manager Peter Stöger is doubtful Michy Batshuayi will play for the club again following a serious injury sustained in their 2-0 defeat at rivals Schalke 04.

The 24-year-old Belgian marksman, who is on loan at the Bundesliga giants from Chelsea, was stretchered off in stoppage time after 90 minutes were up with a suspected broken ankle – whilst some have since speculated it could be a ligament injury.

Since leaving the Arena AufSchalke pitch there’s been speculation regarding how long Batshuayi would be out for, as far as his manager Stöger is concerned it’s too early to say, but he’s not overly optimistic in seeing the striker back in a black-and-yellow jersey before the season ends.

“I didn’t think it looked like the kind of injury that he would be back from quickly,” he said via the club’s official website.

“I hope, of course, that I’m mistaken. I can’t yet say anything specific, other than the fact that he’s in pain and will now be examined in more detail. Hopefully, it’s not as bad as it looks.”

Batshuayi in Dortmund

It took Batshuayi only 35 minutes to register his first BVB goal on his Bundesliga debut away to 1. FC Köln in early February. He’d add a second 27 minutes later before setting up former Blues forward André Schürrle for the winner six minutes from time as Peter Stöger’s men returned home with a 2-3 victory. NaijaBet.com

Batshuayi carried on his good form in front of goal with another strike in Dortmund’s 2-0 home win over Hamburg, before adding a further four league goals, including a brace in a 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt last month.

Dortmund have four more league outings remaining this season as they look to cement participation in the 2018/19 Champions League.

Batshuayi will hope the injury doesn’t cost him a World Cup spot. De Rode Duivels, who are in Group G with England, kick-start their tournament on June 18 against Panama before facing Tunisia and then England on June 23 and June June 28 respectively.

Next up for BVB is a crunch clash with fellow Champions League chasers Bayer Leverkusen. NaijaBet.com
