
Roma and Qatar Airways have announced a multi-year commercial deal, with the airline becoming the Serie A club’s shirt sponsors.
The agreement, the largest ever signed by the club, will see Qatar Airways become Roma’s main sponsor until the 2020-21 season.
They will follow the Catalan side by sharing shirt sponsors with the airline giants.Roma have enjoyed a remarkable season in the Champions League this season and memorably knocked out Barcelona after coming back 4-1 down in the second leg.
Roma, like Barca, are known for not having shirt sponsor more often than not and Qatar Airways will be only the seventh shirt sponsor in the club’s 90-year history.
The Italian outfit were rewarded with a Champions League semi-finals encounter against Liverpool for the first time in 34 years.
“Today’s announcement is the result of discussions behind the scenes for more than eight months with Qatar Airways, led by our commercial team in London with much assistance from the entire Roma team, and comes at a significant time in the club’s history, on and off the pitch.
“With a new stadium due to begin construction late this year and the team in the Champions League semi-final for the first time for 34 years, it’s an exciting time to be a Roma fan. We shall be proud to wear the Qatar Airways name on our shirts and we look forward to working together to achieve sporting and commercial success for many years to come.”
Qatar Airways’ stock continues to grow in the football world, and they are the official partner of FIFA in sponsoring a number of sporting events, including the World Cup in 2018 and 2022.
The club have also confirmed that the club’s new sponsor will debut in the Champions League semi-final first-leg clash with Liverpool.
Roma will turn out in their white away kit at Anfield on Tuesday night, with the Qatar Airways logo emblazoned across it for the first time.
